Dogs on the beach ~ Llandudno

Living in Cape Town has many advantages, one being an abundance of stunning locations for photo shoots. Of course beaches come high up on the list. A photoshoot on a beach with a family of Border Collies was bound to be lots of fun.

Pepper (in the front) and Django (the blurry figure in the background) are quite at home in the sea and sand. These two have a definite pecking order hence the reason why Django is sitting in the background. It was just about impossible to get them to sit next to each other for a posed photo.

Django was the inspiration behind his owners business Django Leads. A couple of lead related injuries in her own dogs led to the creation of the business. She makes wonderful tug toys, snuffle mats as well as comfortable, handler friendly leads.

Pepper cuts a dashing figure coming out of the waves. The freezing Atlantic waters did nothing to deter him from a frolic in the sea.

A good swim is followed by a bit of ball action on the sand. This is the perfect life for these active border collies who need lots of exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy.

This is Sherlock, the new kid on the block. He is kept pretty much in place by the big guys but he ventured out a bit on his own. He’s the picture of cuteness strutting along the beach. It won’t be long before he’s big enough to rough and tumble with Django and Pepper.

The shoot was scheduled to be a sunset event but you can’t always depend on the weather, especially in Cape Town. However, Mother Nature was kind enough to give us a small glimpse of the sun as it slipped below the horizon.

Due to the heavy cloud cover the light disappeared very quickly. We managed to snap a few images before it became too dark to focus properly on the dogs.

It was certainly a photo shoot with a difference. Weather and animals tend to make outcomes very unpredictable which is all part of the fun. Winter actually gives us the best sunsets. You just have to time it right.
