Here in the Cape the month of May is known to be the best month for spectacular sunsets.
My beach photo shoot with Lance the Golden Retriever was scheduled to coincide with the evening golden hour. However, nature had her own plans. The skies on my side of the mountain were cloudless but as I got closer to the Atlantic seaboard a thick mist came rolling in from the sea.

But we didn’t let that stop us. Sun or no sun, the show goes on! Lance was as happy as a sandboy (excuse the pun) at the beach and I was ready with the camera. As it turned out the light was beautifully soft making for lovely atmospheric images.

Lance was a beautiful subject for these beach and sea shots. He is Navy trained so perhaps he felt a kind of affinity with the sea. You’d be forgiven for thinking that here he was dreaming of the Jolly Roger and pirates on the high seas!

Of course, it’s much more fun if you’ve got a best friend to share the stories with. I’d love to know what tales these two were telling each other.

Cold water has never bothered a Golden Retriever or a young boy so I had no problem getting them to stay in the rockpool for this image. The misty conditions really added to the atmosphere.

Lance was amazingly energetic for a ten year old labby but due to the mist the light started to fade quite quickly. We reluctantly parted ways with a plan to meet again soon, this time with a traditional sunset.
