Country garden ~ Suki the pitbull

When I was offered the use of this stunning Hout Bay property for our upcoming photo session with Suki the Pitbull, I jumped at the chance. It’s not often I have such a beautiful distraction-free location to work in. Suki can be a little reactive with other dogs which made this garden an even more attractive option.

Suki was fostered from Tears Animal Rescue back in the dark days of lockdown. Like so many lucky dogs at the time she became a foster fail. With a face like that she had to be a keeper!

Lots of cuddles and no awkward posing necessary for this perfect couple.

A photoshoot isn’t all work and no play. I always allow for frequent breaks to avoid boredom and also over stressing the model(s). That doesn’t mean I stop clicking as this is often when the best photo ops present themselves.

Bloopers make some of the best images. We tried to persuade Suki to ‘paws-up’ on the branch while at the same time show off her portrait on the back of mom’s jacket. She wasn’t too keen, as you can see!

Suki never let me out of her sight. I may have been holding her ball above the lens when this pic was taken. Can you tell?

We managed quite a variety of alert, quirky expressions from this girl, which is quite typical of the breed. I always have a squeaky gadget handy which generally gives me a two second chance to capture these moments.

Alternatively my cat impressions usually do the trick.

We ended the day with a couple of close-ups, to capture those unique eyes and the squishy snout.

All the dogs I have ever photographed have their own particular quirks and characteristics and I love capturing them.
