Photo Shoot for a Senior Dog – Cassie the Jack Russell

” Jack Russells are an energetic breed that rely on a high level of exercise and stimulation” – Wikipedia

On the day of our shoot Cassie displayed some spells of the energy and spark that is associated with this breed. Sadly, in the previous weeks she was not well, showing definite signs of discomfort .

I was first introduced to Cassie about a year ago, shortly after she’d had an eye removed due to glaucoma. Even then her spunk and character made an impression on me. The funky pink accessories put paid to any insecurities she may have had due to the appearance change. She really enjoyed all the fuss and attention that it caused.

The day of this meet-up was a good one for Cassie, which is how mum Haylee wanted it to be. Pets bring such joy and give us such sweet memories. That’s exactly what I wanted to capture with my camera.

Cassie is the inspiration for the naming of Haylee’s furniture restoration business Cassie’s Workshop. The little terrier was a constant companion and side-kick in the lead-up to the opening of the business. It’s only fitting that it should bear her name.

I just love these little dogs. They just have so much character, courage and energy. It’s no wonder that they are such a popular choice as an additional family member, although I believe they can be more challenging than children!

Little dog in leafy garden

Cassie loved her garden. A special corner was reserved for her so that once she’d moved on to that wonderful place with endless grassy meadows she would never be far away from home. Right where that patch of sun is, is her final resting place. This was all done with her inspection and approval of course.

Old dog and owner moment

Saying good-bye to a family pet is never easy, no matter how old they are. In fact, their only fault is that their lives are so short, compared to us humans.

We just love them and care for them as best we can and then if we have the privilege, we let them go with the dignity they deserve.
